Remember!

Yes, it’s way cool that somewhere on the planet, a baby was born at 11:11:11 on 11-11-11.

It’s way cooler that people died so that that baby can live freely, write freely and speak freely.

As a peacenik, I nevertheless must come to terms with the fact that people fought and died for the way of life I now enjoy.

I thank them.

  1. Thanks, Cherry and Samrat.

We can easily take things for granted, can't we?

    Peace,

  2. Many thanks to all of those brave men and women who have allowed the US to retain the freedom that we have today. What a great way to bring a baby into this world! Both on a day that makes numeric history and a day that honors our freedom. Thank you for this post!

  5. Not often enough do I see or read that a person who is committed to peace recognizes that the peace and tranquility we enjoy is maintained by thoughts who are, even as I am writing these words, willing and likely to die in their efforts to maintain that peace. Our job as non-combatants is to control the people who we have chosen to govern us so that they do not turn into monsters drunk with the power we have given them. Peace like love, liberty and freedom is not free. It's price is vigilance.

  6. That's a very thoughtful response, Marty, thank you.

    No, nothing's easy, nothing's simple, nothing's free.

I agree with you; the price of all that we cherish is vigilance; it is not too high a price to pay.
